In this monthly recurring column we would like to put a transmission or related product into the spotlight, our GearTopper. In this way, we like to share our product knowledge with our readers. In this final edition of 2022, we focus on the ISOMOVE electric cylinders. 

Electric cylinders are more and more replacing pneumatic and hydraulic actuators. Mostly the pneumatic ones are replaced by electric to get a more dynamic and accurate linear positioning. Hydraulic cylinders are more often replaced because of the same aspects as pneumatic cylinders but also because the number of applications that want to avoid oil is growing.
​The combination of an anodized aluminum profile, a high quality ball screw, belt drive or planetary gearbox, driven by a servomotor makes the ISOMOVE a high dynamic actuator or also called ‘servo actuator’.

The ISOMOVE electric cylinder is produced in Italy by Setec Group and has a range with a load up to 350kN and a maximum linear speed of 1600mm/sec. Due to the high efficiency of all components, it can be used at 100% duty cycle which is different from the standard linear actuators. 

Most sizes are available in 3 different input versions, 

• with servo-coupling to directly connect the servomotor to the ball screw with zero-backlash
• with a parallel placed belt-drive to be more compact in overall dimensions 
• with a standard or minimum backlash planetary gearbox between motor and screw

​Several weeks ago we were present at the Offshore Energy exhibition in Amsterdam where we attracted a lot of attention with our bright green gearboxes. But this red coloured gearbox introduces Christmas time.
 
Our customer needed to replace a competitors unit which should be more or less interchangeable and not all specification were complete on the old documents. Aandrijf Technisch Buro helped them with finding out what’s exactly needed and our thankful customer ordered this unit to us.
 
It’s a standard 2 stage, inline planetary gearbox with hollow shaft including shrink disc, driven by a Danfoss orbital motor OMP-50. The combination is sandblasted and painted in 3 layers epoxy coat for offshore use, in this beautiful Christmas colour.
 
That’s what we call the right Christmas spirit… 🎅🎅​🎅

Early December the gearboxes had to wait in line at Aandrijf Technisch Buro. Just before the Christmas holidays several customers ordered their gearboxes to be delivered in 2022. That goes with a long queue in front of the spray cabin.

No less than 20 track drives, 18 planetary gearboxes with brake, hydraulic motor and valve and 10 planetary slewing drives are waiting to get their final paint job. All gearboxes will be painted in a 2 layer epoxy coating in a RAL colour chosen by the customer. Due to our stock of sub-assemblies we were able to partly build these gearboxes in our workshop on a short term.

For Aandrijf Technisch Buro in cooperation with Q-Bearings this was the first exhibition after the COVID pandemic and we are looking back at a successful event. Please check the video below for a quick recap of our booth, where we showed our fresh green planetary and industrial gearboxes. 

​Besides the planetary winch gearbox and complete winch, one of the highlights at our booth was the TD-system from Dinamic Oil mounted on our slewing drive. The beautiful green industrial gearbox of our partner I.Mak was also shining in the spotlights of our stand.
